There are no shuttle buses or mandatory visitor loops here. Instead, you’ll find rugged ridge traverses, pristine lakes, and a silence broken only by the call of a loon or the crack of a glacier. It is the perfect place to witness the glow of the Alaska Range while enjoying the grit of the trail.

Backcountry Independence
You don’t have to hike for days to see the peaks. The mountains here create their own weather systems. A successful hiker is one who checks on the forecast and road conditions, carrying the 10 Essentials, as conditions can shift from sun to sub-arctic rain in minutes.
Bear Aware
This is active Grizzly and black bear country. Always carry bear spray, make noise on the trail, and use the bear-resistant food lockers at all campsites when provided.
Protect the Tundra
The alpine tundra on Kesugi Ridge is fragile and takes decades to recover from foot traffic. Stay on established trails and, if you are dispersed camping, choose durable surfaces like gravel or rock.
