The Denali Corridor
All roads in The Mat-Su eventually look north toward a singular, gravity-defying monolith: Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley. Standing at a staggering 20,310 feet, the high one dominates the horizon, but the journey to its base is an adventure entirely of its own. The Denali Corridor — stretching along the world-famous George Parks Highway — is a spectacular subarctic thoroughfare where the open Alaskan road gives way to the majestic Alaska Range. As you move north from the valley floor through historic trail towns, the trees give way to sweeping tundra horizons and the mountain draws closer, making the Denali Corridor an epic Alaskan road trip.
The Parks Highway
The backbone of the corridor is the George Parks Highway (AK-3), a designated National Scenic Byway that carves a line between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Driving this route is a cinematic experience.

Gateway Communities
Take your time exploring the eccentric, welcoming spirits of the towns along the tarmac. Stop in Willow to see winter mushing grounds, turn off into Talkeetna for historic gold-rush charm and flightseeing hubs, or fuel up in Trapper Creek for a taste of authentic, off-grid homestead culture.

Denali State Park
Often overshadowed by its national sibling, Denali State Park is a 325,000-acre wonderland that sits entirely within The Mat-Su Borough. Explore the Curry and Kesugi Ridges, a 35-mile alpine spine that offers continuous, unobstructed views of the entire Alaska Range, or rent kayaks to glide across crystal-clear waters beneath the mountain’s gaze.

Denali National Park & Preserve
The northernmost boundary of The Mat-Su Borough encompasses the south side of Denali National Park. Since the vehicle entrance to the National Park sits just beyond our borough, The Mat-Su serves as the ultimate launchpad for deep-park exploration. Enjoy scenic views along the Corridor, then continue north to the park for wildlife loops.
