Petersville Road
A Frontier Path to Denali’s Grandeur
Petersville Road is a testament to the rugged, independent spirit that defines the Northern Mat-Su Valley. Branching off the Parks Highway at Trapper Creek, this historic route leads travelers away from the crowds and into the heart of the Alaskan backcountry. It is widely considered one of the best vantage points in the state for viewing Denali and the towering peaks of the Alaska Range, offering a perspective that feels both intimate and immense.
Echoes of the Gold Rush
The road itself is a testament to the fearless craftsmanship and perseverance of early Alaskan pioneers. Originally carved out to provide access to the Petersville Mining District, the route still winds past active mining claims and weathered relics of a golden era. As you traverse the landscape, you are following in the footsteps of miners who saw the potential in this wild terrain and built a legacy that still resonates in the Valley today.
