Formed in Sacramento, California, in 1991, CAKE quickly stood apart from the grunge-dominated rock scene of the era with an ever-inventive sound defined by dry, deadpan vocals, sharp wit and trumpet flourishes. Seamlessly blending numerous genres and influences, ranging from alternative rock and funk, to country and pop, the band established itself as a mainstay of American alternative music from the 1990s to today.

CAKE released their debut album, Motorcade of Generosity, in 1994, followed by a string of critically and commercially successful releases, including Fashion Nugget (1996) and Comfort Eagle (2001). Their most recent studio album, Showroom of Compassion (2011), debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and was praised by The New Yorker for its “deadpan brilliance.”

Across their catalog, CAKE has produced numerous chart-topping alt-rock singles, including “Never There,” which reached #1 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart; “The Distance,” their breakthrough single, which climbed to #4 on the Alternative Songs chart; “Short Skirt/Long Jacket,” which peaked at #7 on the Alternative Airplay chart; and “Sick of You,” which rose to #4 on Alternative Songs.
