The Knik River Valley is one of The Mat-Su’s hidden gems, and the recreation opportunities are endless.

The Knik River Valley is accessible by Knik River Road, off the Old Glenn Highway. At the end of the road is Alaska Glacier Lodge, which has amazing views of the Chugach Mountains and Knik Glacier.

The area is a popular spot for ATV adventures. Longer rides can start at the Jim Creek area and go all the way back to Knik Glacier. Several companies offer guided tours in the area. Other adventures in this area include horseback riding, kayaking, helicopter tours, ice climbing, glacier paddleboarding, and dog mushing.

Eklutna Tailrace is a popular place to view salmon during their spawning migration. This roadside feature feeds into Knik River and its walkable trails make it very popular for families.

Knik River Road is also a great place for wildlife spotting. Each summer, people see countless moose and even black bears along the road. Remember to respect the wildlife and keep a safe distance at all times however. Several migratory birds can also be found along the Knik River Valley.
