The Dogstead

The Alaska Dogstead sits on 160 acres near Big Lake, an hour north of Anchorage in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. It’s here that Iditarod Musher Nic Petit & his team of sled dogs live and train year-round. 

Get ready for an adventure! During your 1.5 hour tour, you’ll meet, pet and harness up our champion Alaskan Huskies and head out on a breathtaking mushing tour with views of the Chugach and Alaska Mountain Ranges. During the summer, we hit the trail on a wheeled cart and during the winter, we’ll mush on sleds!

Extend your time at the Dogstead and cozy up in one of our 3 spacious and fully-furnished yurts. Each yurt sleeps up to 5 people, has a small kitchenette, gas heater & wood stove, plus a bathroom with toilet and running water. You may even be visited by Libby and Beamer, our retiree Welcoming Committee, who roam around after-hours soliciting head scratches from our guests.
